Marvel’s X-Men are preparing for a significant shift in 2026, and one of the original X-Men is experiencing a particularly dramatic identity change. The team’s diverse powers have always been reflected in their eclectic costumes and appearances.
X-Men Redesigns for the 2026 Hellfire Gala
Marvel has revealed the official redesigns for the X-Men’s 2026 Hellfire Gala. The Gala’s theme is a masquerade, prompting mutants to adopt pseudonyms and experiment with new looks. This year’s event will center around a murder investigation led by Wolverine and Jubilee.
Angel's Transformation into 'The Devil'
The most striking redesign appears to be Angel, now presenting himself as “The Devil.” This is a complete departure from his traditionally celestial themes. Warren Worthington III’s new look includes red boots, pants, a long red coat, and a red, feathered cape.
The cover for X-Men: The Hellfire Murder #1 features “The Devil” prominently, with a red trident symbol. This imagery suggests a potential connection to the murder mystery unfolding at the Gala – either as the victim or the perpetrator.
Other Mutant Monikers
Several other X-Men are also adopting new identities for the Gala. Wolverine will be known as “The Wolf,” Cyclops as “The Hound,” Gambit as “The Fool,” and Emma Frost will sport an all-black ensemble with a quarter moon mask.
A Long-Overdue Evolution for Angel
Angel’s previous evolution into Archangel was a successful reinvention, giving the character a much-needed edge. However, even the Archangel persona has begun to feel dated.
While other X-Men have become leaders and cosmic entities, Angel often remains a tactical asset or supporting character. The “Devil” persona could represent a significant conceptual pivot, offering Warren Worthington III a chance to reclaim his status as an A-list mutant.
This new aesthetic, directly contradicting his angelic namesake, suggests a cunning and powerful mutant ready to operate in the shadows. X-Men: The Hellfire Murder #1 will be available from Marvel Comics on July 22, 2026.
