Canada Lawsuit: Israeli Real Estate Companies Accused of Misleading Canadians Six Canadians have filed a complaint with the Competition Bureau, alleging Israeli real estate firms deceived them about properties in the occupied West Bank. The lawsuit accuses the companies of promoting condos in disputed territories as being in Israel. A group of lawyers and civil society members in Canada have filed a complaint with the Competition Bureau alleging that Israeli real estate companies misled Canadians by promoting properties in the occupied West Bank as being in Israel. The complaint, filed on behalf of six Canadians, cites photos and promotional materials from real estate events in Toronto and Montreal where the companies showed off properties in disputed territories. This comes as Canada has long held that Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal and an obstacle to peace in the Middle East. Canadian charities have also been accused of helping fund the Israeli settlement movement in the region.James Yap, a law professor and president of the Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights association, said Canadians who purchased properties in the West Bank could face serious legal consequences under international law. Ottawa advised businesses in August to avoid engaging with Israeli settlements, warning of potential legal and financial risks.
