Reds Face Roster Decisions

The Cincinnati Reds entered spring training with several key roster decisions to make. Ultimately, Nathaniel Lowe, Will Benson, and Noelvi Marte secured spots on the Opening Day roster, while Rece Hinds and JJ Bleday were assigned to Triple-A.

Hinds' Hot Start in Triple-A

Despite being initially left off the big league roster, Rece Hinds is quickly demonstrating his potential. Through his first five games with the Louisville Bats, Hinds has recorded eight hits, three runs, a triple, and an impressive three home runs in just 15 at-bats.

Power and Aggression at the Plate

Hinds is well-known for his power hitting, consistently performing well against minor league pitching. During spring training, his aggressive approach at the plate was notable, ranking him at the top of the league in zone swing percentage. This indicates a willingness to swing early and often on pitches within the strike zone.

Impressive Stat Line

While Hinds still experiences strikeouts, his contact is consistently powerful. He ranked highly in key metrics during spring training, including exit velocity, barrel percentage, and wOBA. This combination of power and aggression is turning heads.

Outfield Struggles in Cincinnati

The Reds' current outfielders are facing early-season challenges. TJ Friedl has appeared slower and is striking out more frequently, while Spencer Steer has only one hit in over 20 at-bats. Noelvi Marte hasn't replicated his spring training success either.

Potential Roster Changes

If Hinds is called up to the major leagues, Marte or Benson would be the most likely candidates to be sent down. While demoting Steer or Friedl is considered unlikely, the team may consider all options if current performances continue.
