A Fairfield homeowner took matters into his own hands when a suspect attempted to break into his family's residence on the 1700 block of Burbank Court, according to police.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when 30-year-old Jason Nichols allegedly tried to force entry into the home — which was occupied by a woman and child at the time — by repeatedly kicking the front door. When that attempt failed, Nichols gained access through a sliding glass door.

The homeowner's husband, who was away from the property at the time, spotted Nichols on a home security camera and rushed back to the residence. Upon arrival, he armed himself with a shovel and confronted the intruder directly. A physical altercation broke out, leaving both men with head injuries.

Police officers arrived within minutes and located Nichols outside the home, where he was taken into custody. He was transported to NorthBay Medical Center for treatment before being booked into the Solano County Jail on multiple felony charges.

Fairfield Police praised the homeowner's actions, stating he "worked to protect his family while officers were responding to the scene." Officials also expressed relief that the situation was resolved without more serious harm. "We are grateful that the family is safe and commend our officers for their swift response in bringing this dangerous situation to a safe resolution," police said.

Video footage of the confrontation has since spread across social media platforms, drawing widespread attention.
