Stolen Truck Leads to High-Speed Chase
A 41-year-old Indiana man is facing attempted murder charges after authorities say he intentionally rammed a stolen Bud Light truck into a Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputy’s patrol car during a pursuit last Friday.
Initial Pursuit and Ramming Incident
At approximately 3:00 p.m. on Friday, deputies identified a Bud Light semi-trailer truck reported stolen from Evansville. When deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver fled, initiating a chase that extended into Posey County.
Deputy Narrowly Avoids Injury
During the chase, a deputy exited their vehicle to deploy stop sticks in an attempt to disable the truck. Randall Baker, the driver, allegedly intentionally rammed the deputy’s patrol vehicle. Fortunately, the deputy was able to move out of the way and sustained no injuries.
Apprehension and Charges
The stolen truck eventually left the roadway and came to rest in a nearby field. Baker refused to exit the vehicle, prompting deputies to use pepperball rounds to force his surrender.
Multiple Charges Filed
Randall Baker was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He has been charged with attempted murder, auto theft, criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement, reckless operation of a tractor trailer, and operating while intoxicated.
Court Appearance and Bond
On Wednesday, a judge ordered Baker to be held on a $10 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 15.
