A substitute teacher and assistant soccer coach in a small Kentucky town has been arrested following allegations of engaging in sexual activity with a student. The arrest came after school officials received an anonymous tip detailing the inappropriate relationship.
Arrest of Bardstown High School Educator
Identity and Allegations
The accused is identified as Mary “Hanna” Mattingly, a 31-year-old educator at Bardstown High School in Kentucky. She was taken into custody on Monday after investigators alleged she had “sexual contact” with an unidentified student.
Police reports further indicate that Mattingly, who also served as an assistant coach for the girls' soccer team, exchanged phone messages with the student. Authorities also allege she sent the student photographs described as “partially nude.”
School Response and Investigation
The situation began last week when Bardstown City Schools received an anonymous letter detailing the alleged “inappropriate contact” between Mattingly and the student. Superintendent Ryan Clark confirmed the immediate actions taken by the district.
Clark stated, “Bardstown City Schools immediately initiated an investigation, removed the individual from her job duties, placed her on administrative leave and alerted the authorities.” Investigators emphasized that Mattingly was in a “position of special trust as a school teacher at Bardstown High School” when the alleged acts occurred.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
Criminal Charges Filed
Following the investigation, Mattingly was formally arrested on Monday. The charges filed against her include first-degree sexual abuse and procuring or promoting abuse of a minor by electronic means.
She is currently being held at the Nelson County Jail on a bond set at $20,000. Mattingly is scheduled to make her initial court appearance on April 7.
