Royals Second Baseman Delivers Winning Hit
Kansas City Royals fans had extra reason to celebrate on Wednesday night thanks to second baseman Jonathan India. His grand slam during the sixth inning triggered a $25,000 prize for one lucky fan, as part of the team’s long-standing “Sonic Slam” promotion.
What is the 'Sonic Slam'?
The sixth inning of Royals games is known as the “Sonic Slam” inning. If a Royals player hits a grand slam during this inning, a randomly selected fan wins $25,000.
India's Grand Slam Extends Royals' Lead
India launched the ball out of the left-field corner of Kauffman Stadium, securing a grand slam. This powerful hit increased the Royals’ lead over the visiting Minnesota Twins to 12-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

MJ Melendez's June 2024 Grand Slam
In June 2024, then-Royals outfielder MJ Melendez also hit a sixth-inning grand slam at Dodgers Stadium. Mendy King was the recipient of the $25,000 prize and used the money to purchase a new car and a Melendez jersey.
The Royals later presented King with an autographed Melendez jersey at a home game.
Royals' Season Record
Entering Wednesday’s game against the Twins, the Royals held a 2-2 record. They won their home opener against Minnesota 3-1 on Monday, following a series against the Atlanta Braves where they went 1-2 in 2026.
