Celtics Defeat Heat 147-129
The Boston Celtics secured a 147-129 victory over the Miami Heat, but one particular defensive play by Derrick White left teammate Jaylen Brown in disbelief. The game saw the Celtics leading by as much as 27 points, ultimately winning by 19.
White's Remarkable Sequence
With approximately three minutes remaining and the Heat mounting a comeback to within 15 points, White executed a stunning sequence in just 6.7 seconds of game time. He initially made a great pass to Jaylen Brown for an alley-oop just before the buzzer.
From Baseline to Baseline
Immediately after assisting on Brown’s layup, White sprinted the length of the court to challenge a layup attempt by Miami’s Pelle Larson, forcing a miss. This incredible display of effort and athleticism saw White transition from one baseline to the other and back in a matter of seconds, contributing to both offense and defense.
Brown and Mazzulla React
“I don’t know how the hell he did that, but that was impressive to make the play,” Brown stated. “I look and then I’m thinking that Larson has a wide open layup, and then D White comes flying out of nowhere. That’s impressive.”
Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla also commented on White’s play, saying, “It was a great play. He only took four shots, but … you have to have the humility on both sides of an entire team. Those other guys had it going, and you need a group of guys that understand that, but have to compete at all the other stuff. And I think that play was Derrick’s.”
Defensive Recognition for White
White’s offensive contributions were minimal in this game – just six points on four shots – but his defensive impact was, as always, significant. Brown believes White’s performance warrants serious consideration for defensive awards.
All-Defense Caliber
“That’s First-Team All-Defense type stuff,” Brown added. “Those are Defensive Player of the Year type plays. And Derrick, his timing is just unbelievable for a guard. His timing is just amazing, how he can just, his feel, to be able to get those blocks and stuff like that is special. So that was great.”
