Mark Thomas Leaves Carven
Mark Thomas is departing his role as design director at the French fashion house Carven. The announcement was made by Carven, which is owned by China’s ICCF Group, stating Thomas will leave at the end of the month to pursue other opportunities.
Carven’s Statement on Thomas’ Departure
Carven expressed gratitude for Thomas’ contributions, noting his designs helped re-establish the brand’s identity and presence in the fashion industry. “His vision and designs have helped to establish the brand’s identity and style, and have positioned Carven firmly back on the fashion stage,” the company stated. They wished him success in his future endeavors.
Thomas’ Response
Mark Thomas also released a statement thanking those he worked with during his time at Carven. “I would like to sincerely thank every person I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the past few years for helping shape new chapters in this beautiful house,” he said. He also expressed gratitude to Madame Shawna Tao and Mr. Ye, as well as respect for Carven’s founder, Madame Carven.
A History of Creative Shifts at Carven
Revitalizing Carven has proven challenging. The brand filed for bankruptcy in early 2018 before being acquired by the Icicle Group, now known as ICCF Group. Since then, Carven has experienced several changes in creative leadership.
Previous Creative Directors
- Guillaume Henry (2009-2014)
- Alexis Martial and Adrien Caillaudaud (departed 2016)
- Serge Ruffieux (departed 2018)
- Louise Trotter (departed December 2024)
Thomas’ Brief Tenure
Thomas joined Carven in 2023, having previously collaborated with Louise Trotter at Joseph and Lacoste. He was promoted to design director in March 2025 after Trotter’s departure for Bottega Veneta. His first collection, Spring/Summer 2026, continued the sophisticated aesthetic he and Trotter had developed.
Positive Reception of Collections
Thomas’ debut collection was well-received, with Vogue noting the need to “build on top of that” existing success. His second show, described as “excellent” and “more assured” by Vogue Runway’s Amy Verner, featured tank dresses and utilitarian coats reminiscent of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s style.
Future Plans for Carven
Carven stated that announcements regarding the next steps for the house will be made later this year. The brand’s next scheduled show will be for the Spring/Summer 2027 collection.
