One of the biggest storylines of the upcoming NFL offseason might already be over. Following weeks of swirling Myles Garrett trade rumors, Cleveland Browns General Manager Andrew Berry is officially setting the record straight.
Despite the star pass rusher’s recent public trade request, the Browns' front office is firmly pushing back. When asked if other NFL teams had contacted Cleveland regarding a potential blockbuster deal, Berry dismissed the chatter entirely.
"It's irrelevant to the situation because we don't have interest in moving Myles," Berry stated, signaling a hardline stance by the organization.
Why Did Myles Garrett Request a Trade?
The trade demand from the former No. 1 overall pick initially caught the NFL world off guard, but Garrett has made it clear he believes his chapter in Cleveland is coming to a close. During a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Garrett detailed the careful thought process behind his desire for a fresh start.
"Just felt it was time, you know. I had taken my time after the season, kind of relaxed and decompressed emotionally, wanted to distance myself a little bit and spend a little time talking to my family about really how we'd feel about this decision," Garrett explained.
He emphasized the need to be completely objective and aligned with his inner circle before going public with his request. Ultimately, Garrett's decision boils down to a desire to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
"I have a lot of love for Cleveland, but you know, it's always for me been about contending for championships, winning those big games, and winning Lombardis. We haven't had the opportunity to do that, and that's all I'm asking for."
What’s Next for the Cleveland Browns?
As one of the fiercest competitors and most elite edge rushers in the league, Garrett understandably wants to win at the highest level of the sport. However, with the Browns struggling to find consistent postseason success, a standoff is brewing between a franchise desperate to keep its superstar and a player hungry for a Super Bowl ring.
For now, the Cleveland Browns are refusing to blink, meaning any team hoping to trade for Myles Garrett will have to look elsewhere.
