CBC News reported on two stories during its broadcast today.
White House Easter Egg Roll
The annual White House Easter Egg Roll took place today, with farmers across the United States contributing more than 40,000 eggs for the event, according to the CBC broadcast. This year’s activities were also dedicated to celebrating the country’s upcoming 250th year of independence.
Cherry Blossom Damage in British Columbia
Cherry blossom season is underway in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, but the seasonal attraction is facing a new challenge. The CBC reported that people are damaging the trees in pursuit of the perfect photograph, particularly for social media.
According to the broadcast, individuals are breaking branches and shaking trees to create a “snow” effect for photos. The organizer of Vancouver’s Cherry Blossom Festival, which attracts approximately 60,000 people, stated she has to ask people to stop damaging the trees roughly every 20 minutes. She noted that while most visitors are respectful, some are willing to harm the trees for an “amazing Instagram shot.”
The City of Richmond has responded by installing signs urging visitors not to harm the trees, as the wood is brittle.
