President Donald Trump highlighted the story of Travis Smith, a two-year-old boy who regained his hearing through a Regeneron medication and surgery, during an Oval Office event focused on lowering prescription drug costs.
Restoring a Toddler's Hearing
Born completely deaf, Travis was able to hear again after receiving access to the drug. President Trump shared that Travis can now hear his mother say “I love you” and enjoys listening to music and dancing.
The heartwarming scene included Travis playfully crawling and dancing on the Oval Office carpet, captivating those in attendance.
Drug Pricing and Regeneron
The event underscored an agreement between the Trump administration and Regeneron, where the company agreed to lower drug prices in exchange for tariff relief. This follows President Trump’s previous experience with a Regeneron COVID treatment in 2020, which he described as a “cure.”
Leonard Schleifer, Regeneron’s co-founder, is known to be a golfing companion of President Trump, highlighting the existing relationship between the two.
