Kanye West's Wireless Festival Appearance Draws Criticism
The announcement of Kanye West’s performance at Wireless Festival has prompted a response from London Mayor Sadiq Khan. He stated that the rapper’s past comments and actions are “not reflective of London’s values.” West is scheduled to perform at Finsbury Park on July 10, July 11, and July 12, 2026.
Mayor Khan's Office Addresses the Controversy
A spokesperson for the Mayor clarified that the decision to book West was made by festival organizers, not City Hall. “We are clear that the past comments and actions of this artist are offensive and wrong,” the spokesperson said. “This was a decision taken by the festival organizers and not one that City Hall is involved in.”
Concerns Over Antisemitic Rhetoric
The criticism stems from West’s repeated use of his platform to spread antisemitism and pro-Nazi messaging. The Mayor’s spokesperson added, “Any venue or festival should reconsider before providing their platform to Kanye West to spread his antisemitism.”
Festival's Perspective and Recent Projects
Wireless Festival described the upcoming performances as “Ye returns to London for a three night journey through his most iconic records.” This appearance follows the release of West’s latest album, his first in four years.
Recent Controversial Song Release
The performance also comes after West released the song “Heil Hitler” in 2025, further fueling the controversy. Singer/actor Benjamin Haim-Isaac also voiced concerns regarding West’s platform.
