Sexual Assault Allegation Prompts Investigation

Two correctional officers have been “relieved of duty” after a female inmate reported being sexually assaulted at Hospital Galveston, according to a recent statement. The alleged incident occurred recently, prompting immediate action from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).

Ongoing Investigations into Multiple Allegations

TDCJ and the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) are also investigating a separate allegation of sexual assault involving a different female inmate. This prior incident, reported earlier this year, involved one officer identified by name and two others described.

Officer Overlap in Both Cases

Officials have noted a connection between the two investigations. The officer named in the earlier case, along with one of the described officers, also appear to be involved in the recent allegation at Hospital Galveston.

Agency Policy and Officer Conduct

The TDCJ has strict policies regarding interactions between correctional officers and inmates. Agency policy dictates that a male officer should not be alone with an individual female inmate. Furthermore, staff are prohibited from conducting cross-gendered unclothed searches.

Investigation Status and Officer Identities

The names of the officers involved in both investigations have not been publicly released at this time. This is to protect the integrity of the ongoing inquiries. Investigations are continuing, and further details will be released as appropriate.
