WNBA Finals Game 6 in Atlanta Faces Arena Conflict with Hawks Game The WNBA Finals Game 6 between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries is guaranteed for Thursday, Oct. 29, but a scheduling conflict with the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena leaves the venue uncertain. The WNBA Finals Game 6 between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries is guaranteed for Thursday, Oct. 29, but the league is still searching for a venue in Atlanta. WNBA Finals Venue Scheduling ConflictsThe best-of-seven series is tied 2-2 after Golden State's 67-62 victory on Saturday. Game 6 is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, but the Atlanta Hawks are set to host the Cleveland Cavaliers at State Farm Arena at 7 p.m. the same night. The Dream have been playing their home playoff games at State Farm Arena, which holds about 17,000 fans and has drawn sellout crowds during the Finals.Their regular-season home, Gateway Center Arena in College Park, seats only about 3,500. A Dream spokesperson told ESPN on Sunday, We are waiting to hear from the league if any changes can be made to allow us to play in State Farm Arena. If not, the game will be played in Gateway Center Arena. Scheduling conflicts have already forced adjustments earlier in the series.Game 3 was moved from Thursday, Oct. 22, to Wednesday, Oct. 21, to avoid a concert conflict. For Game 4, the league moved the tip-off to an earlier afternoon slot on Saturday to accommodate the Hawks' home opener against the Houston Rockets that evening. The Hawks also agreed to a double-header that day and moved their own tip-off back 30 minutes.NBA Interference With WNBA ScheduleAccording to ESPN, the NBA has been looking into whether the Hawks-Cavaliers game could be moved to an alternative date or even to Cleveland. Moving the game to Cleveland would mean a home-road sequence for the Hawks and short notice for Rocket Arena. Fridays are typically NBA Cup exclusive game nights, but the Hawks-Cavs clash is a non-Cup game.An added wrinkle is that the Cavaliers play the Bucks on Oct. 31, and the city is also set to host Game 6 and 7 of the World Series. State Farm Arena has openings on Oct. 27, a day after the Valkyries host Game 5 at Chase Center, and Oct. 30. A proposal being discussed would move Game 6 to Friday, Oct. 30, and push Game 7 from Oct. 31 to Tuesday, Nov. 3.However, both the Dream and Valkyries would have to approve that plan. A source close to the situation told ESPN, There are problems with all the solutions. There were also discussions about making Game 6 a matinee as Game 4 was, but a weekday matinee and a weekend matinee are not the same thing to the league.Dream Alternatives For Home GamesPreviously, the Dream looked into other alternate arenas, including Georgia Tech's McCamish Pavilion, the Georgia State Convocation Center, and Gas South Arena in Duluth. Yet, both Georgia Tech and Gas South would feel like a road game for both teams, according to the report. Dream star Angel Reese has made it clear she would prefer to stay at State Farm Arena. The Dream have already announced plans to move into State Farm Arena full-time beginning with the 2027 season, which should make these scheduling headaches easier to avoid in the future. The Valkyries released a statement saying, We're proud to be part of such a compelling Finals and love seeing the growth of the game. We fully support what's best for the league and will stand behind whatever it decides.Craig Carton also unleashed a passionate rant on the latest WNBA controversy involving the Atlanta Dream, State Farm Arena, and the league's marketing strategy regarding its biggest stars. The situation remains unresolved as the league, both teams, and the NBA work to find a solution that affects both franchises and leagues greatly.
