Fatal Pursuit Ends in Crash at Travis Air Force Base
Two individuals have died following a high-speed police pursuit that concluded in a fiery crash at the entrance to Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning after the vehicle led Napa County Sheriff’s deputies on a chase.
Incident Timeline and Traffic Stop
The sequence of events began shortly after midnight on Tuesday when Napa County deputies initiated a traffic stop on Highway 12 in Napa. The vehicle, occupied by a driver and a passenger, failed to comply and fled the scene, prompting a pursuit.
Approximately 10 minutes after the chase began, the vehicle crashed at the Travis Air Force Base Visitor Parking Lot. Upon impact, the car became engulfed in flames.
Emergency Response and Aftermath
Deputies attempted to extinguish the fire but were unable to save the occupants. Both the driver and the passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
Social media footage captured around 1 a.m. showed the vehicle overturned near the entrance sign of the military installation. One witness described hearing a loud boom, initially fearing an aircraft accident, before discovering the heavy presence of law enforcement and emergency vehicles.
Operational Impact
Following the crash, authorities advised individuals attempting to access the base to utilize alternative entry points. Access was redirected to the Hospital Gate and the North Gate while officials managed the scene.
