Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced significant steps to enhance the nation's data security framework, driven by escalating cyber risks stemming from regional instability. The recent conflicts observed in areas like Lebanon, Gaza, and Iran have underscored the critical nature of robust cybersecurity measures in the modern geopolitical landscape.

The Imperative for Digital Sovereignty

Speaking on Tuesday at the Strong Türkiye in Communication with 5G Ceremony in Ankara, President Erdogan stressed the link between digital strength and national standing. "If you want to be strong, deterrent, and respected on the global stage, you must accelerate your efforts in cyberspace and take the necessary cybersecurity measures," he stated.

Cybersecurity as a Pillar of National Security

Erdogan asserted that in the current data-driven era, political stability and economic independence are inextricably linked to digital defense. He warned that failing to secure one's digital infrastructure creates significant vulnerabilities.

"If you can control your borders but cannot control your airspace, and if you cannot protect your cyber homeland and your data, then there is a serious vulnerability in your sovereignty," the President added.

Upcoming Security Enhancements

The Turkish government plans to introduce further measures soon to fortify the security of sensitive data held by state institutions. These efforts are being coordinated across various national bodies to ensure comprehensive protection.

President Erdogan confirmed that intelligence agencies and law enforcement are actively deploying preventive strategies and counter-measures. He emphasized a proactive approach, stating, "We view cybersecurity not merely as a reaction to threats, but as an integral part of our national security."

5G Rollout Timeline

In related technological developments, Erdogan provided an update on the national 5G deployment. The new technology will initially launch across all 81 provincial centers.

The nationwide availability of 5G services is projected to be achieved within the next two years, further integrating digital infrastructure across the country.
