A Sweet Celebration for the Wildcats

As the University of Arizona Wildcats advance to the Final Four, Tucson-based snack shop Tanna's Botannas is helping fans celebrate with a new line of themed treats. The locally owned business has released spicy strawberry and pineapple candies featuring official U of A logos, along with mascots Wilbur and Wilma on the packaging.

The Road to Licensing

Salvador Martinez, the director of sales and distribution for Tanna's Botannas, noted that the partnership with the university was a year-long endeavor. The process involved strict adherence to university regulations and extensive collaboration with the licensing department to perfect the product design.

Despite the careful planning, the launch faced unexpected delays when the shipment was held at customs for three months. Martinez described the timing of the release, which arrived just before the Sweet 16, as "fate."

A Personal Tribute

The collaboration holds special significance for the shop's owner, Tanna Cole. On the back of the packaging, she honors her late grandfather, Dennis Wasko, describing him as the "biggest U of A fan" and a dedicated supporter of her business. She noted that his pride in their hometown and roots is reflected in every bag.

Community Reception

University of Arizona students have already begun showing their support for the new snacks. During a campus event on Monday, students expressed excitement about the collaboration, noting that the treats add to the festive atmosphere surrounding the team's historic tournament run.

Availability and Future Plans

The Wildcat-themed candies are currently available in approximately 30 stores across Southern Arizona, including locations in Patagonia, Sahuarita, and Marana. The company is working to expand distribution rapidly, with plans to stock campus stores by August.

  • Logistics: The company is coordinating with the university to sell the candies at the alumni area during the Final Four.
  • Growth: Tanna's Botannas, which began in 2020 at a home kitchen, has expanded from a food truck to a brick-and-mortar storefront.
  • Future Products: Martinez confirmed that the shop plans to roll out additional U of A-themed items in the near future.
