Former President Donald Trump, 79, displayed a sharp reaction to a reporter’s questions during an event at the White House on Tuesday. The exchange, which occurred during an executive order signing in the Oval Office, highlights a recurring pattern of tense interactions with members of the press, particularly female reporters.

NewsNation’s Libbey Dean questioned Trump regarding U.S. military intervention in Iran and whether any agreements were contingent on a deal with the Iranian government. Trump initially responded, stating, “Iran doesn’t have to make a deal, no.” He also mentioned having spoken with “a lot of people” within the new Iranian regime, describing them as “much more accessible.”
Interruption and Criticism
As Dean attempted to refocus the conversation on her original questions, Trump interrupted her. He stated, “Wait a minute… You wanted me to answer the question. You’re a fresh person, you know? We’ve had a lot of problems with you, haven’t we?” He then proceeded to answer the question, outlining conditions for potential U.S. withdrawal from the region.
“Uh, no, they don’t. You asked me a question. No, they don’t have to make a deal with me. When we feel that they are for a long period of time put into the Stone Ages and they won’t be able to come up with a nuclear weapon, then we’ll leave. Whether we have a deal or not, it’s irrelevant.”
Broader Context of Recent Interactions
This incident follows other recent confrontations with reporters. Earlier this month, while on Air Force One, Trump criticized ABC News as “one of the worst, most fake, most corrupt” news organizations after being questioned about his political action committee’s fundraising practices.
In a separate instance, Trump reacted strongly to a question from a CNN reporter, 33, regarding his response to survivors of Jeffrey Epstein. He told the reporter, “You are so bad. You know, you are the worst reporter. No wonder… CNN has no ratings because of people like you.” He also made personal comments about the reporter’s demeanor.
Further back in November, aboard Air Force One, Trump responded dismissively to a question from Bloomberg White House correspondent Catherine Lucey about Epstein. He also questioned a NOTUS reporter about their employer after a question regarding congressional support for his policies.
The current situation with Iran, now a month old, has reportedly resulted in thousands of deaths, including 13 Americans, and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, leading to a surge in U.S. gas prices, exceeding $4 a gallon for the first time since 2022.
