Former President Donald Trump has officially announced that King Charles III and Queen Camilla will conduct a State Visit to the United States this spring. This visit marks the first time a reigning British monarch has traveled to the U.S. since Queen Elizabeth II's trip in 2007.

Details of the Royal Visit

The State Visit is scheduled to take place from April 27th through April 30th. A highlight of the trip will be a formal Banquet Dinner held at the White House on the evening of April 28th, hosted by Mr. Trump.

Trump expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Melania and I are pleased to announce that Their Majesties, the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, will visit the United States for a Historic State Visit from April 27-30th, which will include a beautiful Banquet Dinner at the White House on the evening of April 28th.”

Potential Itinerary and Other Engagements

While specific details are still forthcoming, Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles is anticipated to address the U.S. Congress during his time stateside. Following the U.S. leg of the tour, the King is scheduled to travel to Bermuda, though Queen Camilla will not accompany him on that portion.

This announcement follows previous interactions between the two parties. Last September, Trump met with Charles and Prime Minister Keir Starmer during a visit to the U.K. The original announcement did not clarify if Prince William and Catherine Middleton, the Princess of Wales, would join the King and Queen on this specific U.S. tour.

Trump's Commentary on the Occasion

Mr. Trump emphasized the significance of the timing. He remarked, “This momentous occasion will be even more special this year, as we commemorate the 250th Anniversary of our Great Country. I look forward to spending time with the King, whom I greatly respect. It will be TERRIFIC!

Context of Recent U.S.-U.K. Tensions

The announcement comes despite recent public criticism from Trump directed at the United Kingdom regarding international security matters. Specifically, Trump had recently chastised the U.K. for its perceived lack of assistance in securing the Strait of Hormuz amid tensions with Iran.

Trump issued a pointed message to nations facing fuel shortages due to the Strait of Hormuz situation. He advised, “Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT.”

He further asserted that the U.S. would not always provide support, adding, “You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!”
