Tristan Thompson Details Unexpected Friendship

Tristan Thompson, the 35-year-old NBA player, revealed a close friendship with Eric Trump, son of former President Donald Trump, during an appearance on the “Katie Miller” podcast on Tuesday, March 31st. Thompson described the relationship as one that many “wouldn’t expect.”

Eric Trump as a Mentor

“He’s been actually great for me,” Thompson said of Eric Trump, 42. He further explained that Eric has been “like a very big brother, mentor” to him. Thompson noted Eric’s welcoming nature and support, particularly within the political sphere.

Political Guidance and Motivation

“Especially from the political government world really put his arm around me,” Thompson stated. He added that Eric’s guidance has “helped motivate me to want to dive into this realm a little bit more. I love him for that.” Thompson did not disclose the details of how their friendship began.

A Unique White House Visit

During the podcast, Thompson also shared a memorable experience involving both former President Barack Obama and Donald Trump Sr. When asked about a celebrity encounter that excited him, Thompson recalled meeting President Obama and Michelle Obama after winning the 2016 NBA Championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Witnessing a Transition of Power

Thompson recounted that the White House visit coincided with Donald Trump’s first trip to the White House as president-elect. “Funny enough, the same day we went to the White House visit was the same day President Trump actually flew to the White House for the first time,” Thompson shared. He saw President Trump walking the back halls while President Obama was preparing to speak with the team.

Timing of the Encounter

Thompson confirmed that Donald Trump Sr. was there shortly after winning his first term in the fall of 2016, likely for a meeting before Barack Obama left office. Barack Obama served as the 44th President of the United States from 2009 to 2017, followed by Donald Trump as the 45th President in 2017, and then Joe Biden as the 46th President in 2021.
