Bedford, NH – Actor and comedian Eugene Mirman, known for his role as Gene Belcher in the animated series Bob’s Burgers, was rescued from a fiery car crash by a New Hampshire State Trooper and bystanders on Tuesday.
Details of the Incident
The crash occurred just before noon at the Bedford Toll Plaza when Mirman’s northbound electric vehicle collided with the structure and immediately caught fire. New Hampshire State Police responded to the scene.
Rescue Efforts
Governor Chris Sununu and her security detail arrived shortly after the crash. A trooper and two other individuals bravely pulled Mirman from the burning vehicle through a window. Governor Sununu also retrieved a fire extinguisher, though she was not in any immediate danger.
Mirman's Condition and Recovery
Mirman, 51, of Massachusetts, sustained serious injuries in the accident. His agent, Jay Glassner, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, stating, “Eugene was in a very scary car accident.”
Glassner continued, “He wants to thank the bystanders, state police, first responders and hospital staff who saved him. He is grateful to be on the mend. At this time, we kindly ask for privacy for Eugene and his family as he focuses on recovering from his injuries.”
Official Statements
State Police Colonel Mark Hall praised the quick actions of those involved in the rescue. “Without hesitation, they put themselves in danger to render aid to someone who was in need of it,” Hall said.
Governor Sununu also expressed her gratitude, stating, “I want to thank the Trooper on my security detail and the bystanders who stepped up to help at the scene of the crash for their brave lifesaving efforts.”
Eugene Mirman, born in Moscow and raised in Massachusetts, has voiced Gene Belcher in over 300 episodes of Bob’s Burgers, as well as appearing in Flight of the Conchords, Delocated, and Archer.
