Tiger Woods DUI Arrest Details Emerge After Florida Crash
A recent arrest affidavit has brought new details to light regarding Tiger Woods' recent rollover incident near his Florida residence. Police investigating the crash discovered that the golf superstar was allegedly in possession of opioid painkillers at the time of the incident.
The vehicle, a Land Rover driven by Woods, reportedly clipped a truck before rolling onto its side. This event prompted the subsequent investigation and arrest.
Observations of Impairment Noted by Law Enforcement
According to the obtained arrest affidavit, a deputy on the scene made several observations about Woods' condition. The report stated that Woods appeared "lethargic and slow" during the interaction with officers.
Furthermore, the deputy noted that the golfer's eyes looked "bloodshot and glassy." A specific detail mentioned was that his pupils were described as "extremely dilated" during the assessment.
Woods' Admission Regarding Medication
When questioned by law enforcement about whether he was taking any medication following the accident, the 50-year-old athlete allegedly responded simply, "I take a few." This admission followed the discovery of the opioid painkillers.
TMZ reported that Woods attributed the cause of the crash to being distracted. He reportedly told officers he was attempting to adjust his cellphone and change the radio station simultaneously.
Woods stated that he did not see the truck ahead of him on the narrow, two-lane road until it was too late to avoid the collision.
Historical Context of Woods' Driving Incidents
This is not the first time Woods has faced legal scrutiny related to driving incidents. In 2017, he was arrested for driving under the influence after being found unconscious at the wheel.
In that 2017 case, Woods later admitted that he had been impaired by prescription painkillers. He also suffered serious injuries in a separate rollover crash in California in 2021.
An earlier incident occurred in Florida in 2009 when his SUV struck a tree and a fire hydrant outside his home. His then-spouse reportedly had to use a golf club to smash the vehicle's rear window to extract him.
Tiger Woods' Legacy in Golf
Tiger Woods remains widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers in the history of the sport. He currently holds the record for the most PGA Tour victories, tied with Sam Snead at 82 titles.
However, his personal struggles have reportedly hindered his ability to become the outright all-time PGA Tour leader. His most recent major championship win was at the 2019 Masters tournament.
