Tiger Woods was recently arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) following a rollover crash in Jupiter Island, Florida. Emerging details from the official affidavit paint a picture of significant impairment observed by responding officers.
Discovery of Medication and Initial Observations
During the arrest process, officers reportedly discovered two white pills inside the left side pocket of Woods' pants. These pills were later identified as hydrocodone, according to the affidavit.
Responding officers documented several indicators of impairment while interacting with Woods. The report noted that the golfer was observed to be "sweating profusely" throughout the initial contact.
Field Sobriety Tests Reveal Instability
Woods consented to performing several field sobriety exercises. During these tests, officers noted that he was "limping and stumbling to the right."
The horizontal gaze nystagmus test showed further issues, as Woods "continuously moved his head from side to side." Furthermore, he reportedly "had to be reminded" of simple instructions during multiple other tests.
When attempting tasks requiring hand-eye coordination, deputies stated that Woods, who was wearing sunglasses, "began the exercise prior to instructions." He also "hesitated" to complete the required tasks.
Physical Signs and Woods' Statements
Upon being asked to remove his sunglasses, officers observed that Woods' eyes appeared "bloodshot and glassy." His pupils were also noted to be "extremely dilated" at that time.
Woods maintained to investigators that he had not consumed any alcohol or illegal substances that day. However, when questioned about prescription medications, he admitted to taking "a few" of them.
The report also stated that the athlete "had hiccups during the entire investigation." Following his initial statements, Woods reportedly became "extremely alert and talkative," according to the official report.
Context of the Incident
Reports indicate that Tiger Woods allegedly refused to hire a driver for privacy reasons prior to the rollover incident. This recent DUI arrest has reportedly led to an ultimatum from his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, as more facts surrounding the event surface.
