The Star Wars franchise has expanded significantly beyond its original feature films, with Disney+ becoming a central hub for new content. Following the success of The Mandalorian, starring Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin and introducing Grogu, the universe continues to grow.

Expanding the Star Wars Universe

The Mandalorian premiered in 2019 and captivated audiences, returning for two more seasons. A new feature film, The Mandalorian & Grogu, is slated for theatrical release on May 22. Before that, however, another Star Wars series will arrive on Disney+.

Introducing 'Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord'

Darth Maul, a popular character first appearing in The Phantom Menace and later featured in The Clone Wars and Rebels, will take center stage in Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord. The series will explore Maul’s efforts to build a criminal empire and take on a new apprentice.

Release Schedule and Setting

The first two episodes of Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord will be released on April 6. Subsequent episodes will drop in pairs, culminating in the final two episodes on May 4, just weeks before The Mandalorian & Grogu hits theaters. The series is set approximately one year after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

Creative Team and Story Focus

Maul - Shadow Lord is created and written by Lucasfilm CEO Dave Filoni. Sam Witwer, the long-time voice actor for Darth Maul, will reprise his role in the series. The story will focus on Maul exploiting the power vacuum created in the galaxy following Order 66, as the Empire has not yet fully consolidated its power.
