Sheila E. Slams Carson Jazz Festival After Woman Dies and Body Left in Crowd Sheila E. criticized Carson Jazz Festival organizers after Shari Sanders died in the crowd during a heatwave and her body was allegedly not removed until after the musician's performance. Sheila E. slammed festival organizers after a woman's body was left in the crowd until after her performance at the Carson Jazz Festival. The woman was identified as Shari Sanders. The musician said the death occurred during a sweltering Los Angeles heatwave. She called the situation devastating and said it had never happened to her in her entire career. Sheila E. explained that it was very hot that day with temperatures soaring above 100 degrees in Southern California. She said when they arrived at 7:30 a.m., people were already in line sitting in their chairs waiting to get in.Emergency Crews Amidst Extreme HeatOrganizers opened the grounds 30 minutes early to let attendees in. She noted witnessing emergency crews going through the crowds like crazy while waiting with her band for her set. She said they were thinking it was so hot outside and maybe people were dehydrated. They could see that through the window of the dressing room. They never got their sound check, so things were running late. Production was not there and stuff was just happening. She explained that Shari Sanders was saving seats for her family, which is what they were told. Someone saw her kind of slumped over a little bit, again this is what they were told. That led to people coming and trying to find out what was going on. They then saw paramedics, but this was about 20 minutes later. She said they were all heartbroken because that had never happened, to have someone pass away before and it was outside. It was at the park.Sheila E. Criticizes Festival SafetySheila said the devastating part is that Shari Sanders passed away. She relayed that she heard there was minimal access to hydration stations throughout the venue. She said Carson City needs to do better. They have been bragging about doing it for 40 years, but this is not good to have people sitting outside for three hours to be able to come to a festival. She stopped after the first song and dedicated the show to Shari Sanders and her family. She had a moment of silence for her. Little did they know, after they were done performing, they went back to the dressing room. They were then told at 5 p.m. that they had just picked up her body. They were done around 4:30. She said that is uncalled for and devastating. Sheila said she would have never gotten on stage if she had known that Shari Sanders body was still sitting there with her family surrounding her. She said production should have stopped the festival and called the situation uncalled for.Condolences After Body RemovalIt made her sick to her stomach when she heard later on that the body did not get taken until after they were off stage. She said she is so sorry to the family and sorry that they lost a family member. She wants to send her personal condolences. On behalf of the City, officials wrote that they extend their deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, and everyone affected by this tragedy. They said they have personally reached out and spoken to the family during this painful time. The city asked the entire community to join in keeping the family in their prayers, surrounding them with strength, comfort, and peace during this unimaginable moment. The Carson Jazz Festival has been a long-running event in the area. The incident has raised questions about heat safety and emergency response at outdoor music festivals.
