San Antonio is bracing for two separate periods of rainfall this week, with the potential for a damp and cooler Easter weekend. Residents are advised to have indoor alternatives prepared, especially for outdoor activities like Easter egg hunts.
Rainfall Forecast: This Week
First Round: Wednesday Night - Thursday Morning
Warm and quiet conditions will persist until after sunset on Wednesday. A broken line of showers and storms will move eastward from West Texas, reaching the Hill Country after sunset. Strong to severe storms are possible, with potential for quarter-sized hail and gusty winds.
The storm line is expected to weaken as it approaches San Antonio, arriving after midnight. Rainfall totals are predicted to be less than half an inch for most areas, with all rain clearing by 10 am Thursday. The Thursday morning commute may be affected by damp road conditions.
Second Round: Saturday - Sunday
Saturday will begin warm, with temperatures nearing 80°F. However, a cold front will approach South Texas in the afternoon, bringing with it showers and storms. Saturday evening has the potential for wet and windy conditions as the front passes.
Following the front’s passage Saturday night, gusty winds, lingering rain, and cooler temperatures are expected. Sunday will be mostly cloudy with light showers potentially continuing into the afternoon. High temperatures on Sunday will struggle to reach the 60s.
Rainfall Totals & Drought Impact
San Antonio could see up to one inch of combined rainfall from Thursday morning and the weekend. While not substantial, this precipitation will contribute to alleviating the region’s multi-year drought. The highest rainfall totals are anticipated across North and Central Texas.
