Easter Camping Returns to San Antonio Parks
The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department has officially announced the return of the annual Easter weekend camping tradition. City officials confirmed on Tuesday that the standard park curfew will be lifted at several locations to accommodate holiday visitors.
The curfew suspension begins at 11 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, and will remain in effect until 11 p.m. on Easter Sunday, April 5. Brackenridge Park, located at 3700 N. St. Mary’s, is among the sites participating in this tradition.
Waste Management and Park Stewardship
Visitors are strongly encouraged to maintain park cleanliness by bringing their own trash bags and removing all waste before departing. To assist with these efforts, the Park Stewardship team and various volunteers will be on-site to provide extra bags and promote recycling.
Guests are reminded to utilize designated recycling bins for plastic bottles and aluminum cans. Please note the following disposal guidelines:
- Glass containers are strictly prohibited.
- Food-contaminated waste must be placed in standard trash cans.
- Recycling bins are for clean recyclables only.
Fire Safety Guidelines for BBQ Enthusiasts
The San Antonio Fire Department has issued essential safety tips for those planning to grill during the holiday weekend:
- Grill Safety: Never leave a lit grill unattended, and keep children and pets at a safe distance. Do not attempt to move a hot grill, as it remains hazardous for at least an hour after use.
- Starter Fluid: Use only approved charcoal starter fluid. Never add flammable liquids to a fire that is already burning; consider using a charcoal chimney starter instead.
- Grease Fires: Never use water on a grease fire. For gas grills, turn off the gas and close the lid if safe to do so. For charcoal grills without a lid, contact 911 immediately.
- Ash Disposal: Extinguish all coals completely. Wrap cooled, damp ashes in heavy-duty aluminum foil before placing them in the trash. Never put ashes in a recycling bin.
- Personal Safety: Ensure that clothing, such as loose sleeves or apron strings, does not hang over the grill to prevent accidental fires.
