Samsung Expands Availability of Flagship Tablet Keyboard Accessory
Samsung has officially released its Pro Keyboard for the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra across the United States and Europe. This accessory initially debuted in Korea earlier this month before this broader international rollout.
The accessory is engineered to transform the flagship tablet into a more conventional laptop experience. It features a substantial trackpad and a significantly more rigid hinge mechanism than standard cases.
Premium Pricing Puts Accessory Near Laptop Costs
The premium features come with an equally premium cost. Samsung is asking $399.99 in the US and €389.90 in Europe for the Pro Keyboard.
This pricing strategy places the accessory near the cost of entry-level computing devices. For just $100 more, consumers could potentially acquire the base configuration of the MacBook Neo, especially when factoring in student discounts.
Design Focuses on Stability and Seamless Integration
Samsung justifies the high price point through superior materials and build quality. Unlike many competing keyboard cases, the Pro Keyboard utilizes a large aluminium casing.
The hinge system is specifically designed for stability, ensuring the tablet remains steady even when the touchscreen is actively used. Connectivity is managed via metal pins on the rear of the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra.
This direct connection eliminates the need for separate charging or cumbersome Bluetooth pairing processes. When folded, the unit closely mimics a traditional laptop form factor.
Enhancing Productivity with DeX and AI Features
When combined with Samsung DeX functionality, this premium accessory becomes a more sensible proposition for power users. The keyboard deck includes several specialized keys for enhanced workflow.
These include a dedicated AI key and three fully customizable function keys. Users can assign these function keys to launch specific applications of their choosing.
Weight Trade-Off Impacts Portability
A significant drawback of this robust design is the added weight. The Keyboard Pro itself weighs 1.4lbs when detached from the tablet.
When paired with the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra, the total setup weighs 2.93lbs. This weight is comparable to many standard 14-inch laptops, diminishing the portability advantage of a tablet.
While the combination offers a more laptop-like experience, it unfortunately inherits the weight penalty without fully becoming a dedicated laptop replacement.
