‘Reunion’ Trailer: A Hilarious Case of Mistaken Identity
Even decades after graduation, high school memories – and potential regrets – can linger. The new comedy Reunion delves into this theme with a story of mistaken identity and second chances. Recently honored with the Audience Choice Award at the Cinequest film festival in San Jose, Collider is excited to present the exclusive first trailer for what’s been dubbed “Most Likely to Be Hilarious.”
The Plot Thickens at the 20-Year Reunion
The trailer introduces Guy Park, played by Jake Choi, a mortuary assistant leading a rather bleak life at his stepfather’s funeral home. Seeking a spark of his former self, Guy decides to attend his 20-year high school reunion.
A Billionaire By Mistake
However, things take an unexpected turn when classmates mistake him for Ellison Loudermilk, a reclusive and incredibly wealthy Asian-American billionaire who vanished after graduation. The trailer showcases the comedic chaos that ensues as Guy attempts to maintain the charade.
The film features a colorful cast of characters, including Molly (class president), Brad (football star), Dirk (the popular student), Angela (homecoming queen), Lena (activist), Rose (chef), Alvin (photographer), and Peg (the reunion organizer). Oscar-nominee Candy Clark also stars.
Overcoming Challenges During Production
Filming Reunion wasn’t without its obstacles. The production’s first day, January 7th, 2025, coincided with the devastating Eaton Fire in Los Angeles, which tragically claimed 19 lives and became the second-most destructive wildfire in California history.
A Commitment to California Filmmaking
Despite the challenges, the filmmakers chose to remain in California and continue production. Producer Noah Pitifer explained, “At a time when most indie films had left Los Angeles, we chose to stay here and continue filming, even during the fires that forced us to shut down on our first day of filming in Altadena. Tragically, some of our crew members lost their homes in the fires. Despite these challenges, we remained united because we were deeply committed to the story and the enduring magic that Los Angeles continues to hold for the film industry.”
Reunion is written and directed by John W. Kim, marking his feature film debut. The film is produced by Kim, Pitifer, and Michael Winnick, with Sebastian Twardosz and the late Fred Roos serving as executive producers.
Reunion is coming soon. Stay tuned to Collider for further updates.
