It’s been six years since Supernatural concluded in 2020, but the story isn’t over. Misha Collins is reprising his role as the beloved angel Castiel in a brand-new spinoff.
Castiel's Comic Debut
Castiel, along with Dean and Sam Winchester, will feature in Supernatural Special: Castiel #1, set to be released by Dynamite Entertainment on June 3, 2026. This marks Castiel’s first appearance in the Supernatural comic universe.
Creative Team Behind the Spinoff
The special is being written by Preeti Chhibber and illustrated by Pasquale Qualano. The story will follow Castiel as he attempts to assist the Winchester brothers on a new hunt.
Continuing the Supernatural Legacy
Dynamite Entertainment has been expanding the Supernatural world with an ongoing comic series by Greg Pak, set between seasons one and two of the original show. This series focuses on the “monster of the week” format that defined the show’s early seasons.
However, as Castiel didn’t appear on the show until season four, he hasn’t been featured in Pak’s series. Supernatural Special: Castiel #1 addresses this by introducing the angel to the comic book continuity.
A Story of Doubt and Chaos
The synopsis reveals that Castiel is grappling with doubts about his faith while already knowing the Winchester brothers. He follows them to Gainesville, Florida, during a busy weekend, only to find they are always one step ahead.
The official synopsis teases: “Castiel has always been sure… So why is he suddenly having doubts? The only thing he knows is that it has something to do with the Winchesters.”
Collectible Covers for Fans
In addition to Pasquale Qualano’s main cover, the special will feature photo variant covers showcasing Misha Collins as Castiel, and Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as Dean and Sam Winchester. These covers make the issue a must-have collectible for dedicated fans.
Supernatural was created by Eric Kripke.
