'Real Housewives of Atlanta' Season 17 Promises a Fresh Start

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams recently shared details about the upcoming 17th season, which premieres on Sunday, April 6, at 8 p.m. Williams, 44, described the season as a departure from darker storylines, emphasizing a desire for camaraderie among the cast.

Navigating Personal Changes and Cast Dynamics

Filming season 16 was challenging for Williams, coinciding with the finalization of her divorce from Simon Guobadia and a strain on her friendship with Shamea Morton Mwangi. However, she expressed a desire for a “clean slate” heading into season 17. “We all want to be friends, and we’re grown,” Williams told Us Weekly.

New Faces and Returning Favorites

Season 17 will feature returning Housewives Phaedra Parks, Drew Sidora, Shamea Morton Mwangi, Angela Oakley, and Kelli Ferrell. Joining them are newcomers K. Michelle and Pinky Cole, with Cynthia Bailey returning as a friend of the show. Williams believes the new additions brought a positive energy to the group.

Welcoming K. Michelle and Pinky Cole

Williams shared her enthusiasm for the new cast members, noting that the group was already familiar with K. Michelle’s personality. “She knows how to have a good time, and she’s funny,” Williams said. She also praised Pinky Cole as a “business powerhouse” and a source of encouragement, highlighting her focus on “energy and sisterhood.”

Porsha's Personal Life and Relationships

The new season will also showcase Williams dating both a man and a woman, having gone public with girlfriend Sway McKinney in November. When asked about knowing McKinney was “the one,” Williams simply stated, “You just know when you know. I felt comfortable. I felt led more toward her and our relationship and what we were building.”

Maintaining a Positive Group Dynamic

Williams emphasized the cast’s intentional effort to address conflicts directly and avoid negativity. “Everybody was very intentional on trying to have their own mind frame so we didn't let one bad apple poison the bunch,” she explained. She also noted the importance of established friendships with Phaedra Parks and Cynthia Bailey.

Looking Ahead

Williams acknowledged Kelli Ferrell’s tendency to provoke reactions but downplayed the significance of their interactions. She also expressed a belief that NeNe Leakes and Kandi Burruss would be valuable additions to the show in the future.
