Nvidia Deploys Major DLSS 4.5 Update with 6x Frame Generation

Following the recent, somewhat controversial, announcement of DLSS 5, Nvidia has now made the DLSS 4.5 update publicly available. This rollout arrived today through the beta release of the new Nvidia application.

Users can now access the complete suite of DLSS 4.5 features, including the new Dynamic Multi Frame Generation system. To take advantage of these enhancements, users must ensure they have installed GeForce Game Ready Driver version 595.79 WHQL or a newer release.

The Power of 6x Multi Frame Generation

The headline feature of this update is the introduction of 6x Multi Frame Generation technology. Nvidia notes that this pushes the boundaries beyond the previous 2x and 4x capabilities seen in earlier DLSS 4 iterations.

Specifically, the 6x mode is designed to generate five entirely new frames for every single frame natively rendered by GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs. This significant boost aims to maximize frame rates for supported hardware.

Introducing Dynamic Multi Frame Generation

Beyond raw frame counts, DLSS 4.5 features Dynamic Multi Frame Generation for smarter performance scaling. Nvidia compares this system to an automatic transmission for graphics processing.

This dynamic system automatically switches between various frame generation multipliers. The goal is to achieve an optimal balance among high frame rates, visual fidelity, and system responsiveness based on the current game environment.

While the dynamic mode offers automation, players retain manual control. The Nvidia app allows users to select between the dynamic system and fixed multiplier modes if they prefer manual tuning.

Super Resolution Improvements and Hardware Support

DLSS 4.5 also incorporates improvements to image quality through its second-generation transformer AI model used in DLSS Super Resolution. This enhancement focuses on reducing visual artifacts like ghosting and boosting temporal stability.

Better stability ensures that the perceived smoothness from high frame rates is not undermined by a blurry or unclear image. However, access to these advanced features is tiered based on hardware generation.

The new 6x Multi Frame Generation capability is exclusive to the GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs. Older RTX 40 series cards will still receive the standard Frame Generation technology. Support for these latest features is explicitly unavailable for older generation RTX graphics cards.
