Nebraska Baseball Coach Will Bolt recently joined the Huskers Radio Network's Sports Nightly program to review the team's recent series sweep of Indiana and look ahead to the midweek contest against Creighton in Omaha.

Huskers Maintain Momentum Entering April

The Cornhuskers are aiming to extend their winning momentum as they approach the month of April. Nebraska concluded March with an unblemished 12-0 record at Haymarket Park.

Overall for the month, the team posted a strong 17-2 record, with their only two defeats occurring during road trips to Auburn and Michigan. This success has propelled Nebraska to a fresh No. 19 ranking in the latest D1Baseball polls, marking their highest placement since the end of the 2021 season.

Midweek Test Against Creighton

The team faces another demanding stretch, scheduled for four games over six days, starting with the rivalry matchup against Creighton.

"Another opportunity for us to go play well in a week," Coach Bolt stated regarding the upcoming schedule. He emphasized the importance of resetting after the previous week to set a positive tone against the well-coached Creighton team in Omaha.

The midweek tilt marks the 153rd meeting between the in-state rivals. Last season, Creighton, under former coach Ed Servais, took two out of three contests. Creighton now operates under Coach Mark Kingston and enters the game with a 13-12 record.

Bolt stressed the team's focus on execution over the opponent. "For us its just go compete, play together, get a chance to get a road RPI game, and like I said, start the week off on the right foot," he commented.

Focus on Process and Urgency

Despite achieving over 20 wins before the end of March, Coach Bolt insists the team maintains a high level of focus. He noted that success stems from commitment to the fundamentals.

"It starts with process and being sold out and bought into the process of practicing with joy and intent," Bolt explained. He added that the team continues to play with a necessary sense of "urgency" regardless of their current record.

Senior Leadership Drives Success

A significant factor in Nebraska's strong start has been the performance of senior infielder Dylan Carey. Bolt credited Carey as central to the team's cultural improvement and success.

"The character, the makeup, the hard work, the work ethic, just all of it. It's the reason why he's successful on the field," Bolt praised. He noted that the back-to-back Big Ten championships would not have happened without Carey.

Carey recently broke the Huskers' career doubles record during the sweep of Indiana. The senior finished that series 4-for-4 in the final game, contributing a home run and four RBI in the 12-4 victory. He currently holds 57 career doubles, already tallying 10 in 27 games this season.

The Power of the Home Crowd

Nebraska remains undefeated at Haymarket Park this season, winning all 12 home games. Bolt attributed this home-field advantage to the energy provided by Husker fans.

"When you get the crooked numbers going and the crowd's going crazy. It certainly helps our guys," Bolt said. He acknowledged that the team feels that support even on the road, noting strong attendance at recent away games.

The program currently ranks in the top 10 nationally for college baseball attendance, a fact Bolt stated the team does not take for granted.
