Good Morning, Cleveland! It's Thursday, April 2nd, and here's a look at today's headlines.
AI-Powered Speed Enforcement
The Fairview Park Police Department, responding to a high volume of speeding complaints, is now employing Urban SDK technology to identify speeding hotspots. This system analyzes data from cell phones, GPS systems, and car insurance trackers to pinpoint locations and times where speeding is prevalent.
How the Technology Works
The Urban SDK system allows officers to strategically position patrols for maximum impact. Importantly, all data transmitted through the system is anonymous, and license plates or other identifying information are not visible.
Following Fairview Park’s success with the program since last fall, other Northeast Ohio police departments are also adopting the technology.
Ohio City Car Break-Ins
Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood experienced a surge in car break-ins Monday night and early Tuesday morning. Police confirmed at least three incidents, but News 5 cameras documented at least ten vehicles broken into along Clinton Avenue between West 29th and West 45th streets. Residents report this is a recurring issue.
Willoughby Hills Flooding
Severe storms caused widespread flooding in Willoughby Hills, keeping emergency crews busy. Willoughby Hills fire officials reported over 2.36 inches of rain fell in a short period, resulting in dozens of flooded basements and some power outages.
Storm Damage to Disaster Relief Organization
Tuesday’s storms also impacted Nehemiah’s Network, a local non-profit that provides disaster relief supplies. The storms caused significant damage to their Cleveland warehouse, including a partial roof collapse.
No Supply Damage
Fortunately, none of the supplies ready for shipment were damaged. The organization is currently working with their insurance company and contractors to arrange repairs.
