A high school teacher in North Carolina has been arrested following allegations that she was attempting to distribute drugs on campus. Jocelyn McArthur, 33, taught honors mathematics at Overhills High School in Spring Lake.
Arrest and Allegations at Overhills High School
The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest of McArthur after deputies responded to a report concerning an illegal substance on school property. McArthur was reportedly caught with marijuana she intended to sell to individuals on the high school grounds.
Charging documents further indicate that McArthur also faces a charge related to possessing a pink-colored stun gun while on school property. This incident occurred last week, according to authorities.
Coworker Claims Long-Standing Issue
An anonymous coworker stated that the situation involving McArthur was not new. This individual claimed that the teacher “reeked of marijuana every single day,” and that her classroom carried the same odor.
The coworker asserted that the administration had previously attempted to remove McArthur from her position. “Our principal tried to fire this woman twice. He sent her home. The county office sent her back to the school,” the source revealed.
Charges and Detention Details
McArthur, who was in her fifth year of teaching at Overhills High, is a mother of two daughters, aged 10 and 14. She is currently being held at the Harnett County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
The specific charges filed against her include possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver near a school. Additional charges include possession of drug paraphernalia and possessing a Taser on school property.
Upcoming Court Appearance
Jocelyn McArthur is scheduled to appear in court regarding these charges on April 14.
