NASA is gearing up for a pivotal moment in its return to the Moon with the Artemis II mission. The agency is scheduled to conduct the official rollout of the massive Artemis II rocket, which will carry four astronauts on a journey around the Moon.
Pre-Rollout Briefing and Schedule Details
Before the hardware begins its journey, NASA will host a significant news conference today at 12 p.m. EST. This briefing will cover the specifics of the Artemis II rollout procedure and provide an overview of the upcoming mission plans.
The mission itself is slated for a launch on February 6. This 10-day endeavor represents the first time humans will travel around the Moon in more than 50 years. You can watch the scheduled press conference live for the latest updates.
The Historic Rocket Rollout
The Artemis II rocket, utilizing NASA's second Space Launch System (SLS) booster, is scheduled to move to its launch site on Saturday, January 17. The target time for the start of this operation is 7 a.m. EST.
The massive vehicle will be transported to Launch Pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Due to the sheer size of the 322-foot rocket, the transit to the launch pad is expected to take several hours to complete.
Space.com's Josh Dinner will be present at the Kennedy Space Center to provide on-site coverage and share observations regarding the view of the historic rollout.
