A Maryland food vendor received an unexpected act of kindness after a customer stole $30 from his tip jar, an incident captured on a viral video. The vendor, known as Musa_usa on Twitch, was livestreaming while working at his food truck on March 27th around 9 p.m. when the theft occurred.
The Incident
A customer requested a cheesesteak while being informed that the interaction was being broadcast live. While Sarac’s back was turned, the customer allegedly snatched money from the tip jar and attempted to conceal the theft by pretending the funds came from his pocket. The customer then quickly left, claiming he was going to retrieve money for his order.
Police Involvement
Police were called to the scene, and Sarac offered to share the livestream footage with the 911 dispatcher via FaceTime. Officers informed Sarac they were already familiar with the suspect.
A Mother's Response
Days later, the man’s mother approached Sarac’s food truck, stating, “A little while ago, a young man came to your stand and took money out of your tip jar. I’m his mother.” Despite Sarac’s assurance that she wasn’t obligated to do so, the mother insisted on reimbursing him for the stolen amount.
“Wasn’t Raised Like That”
“No, I want to pay, because my son wasn’t raised like that,” she explained. She attributed her son’s behavior to alcohol consumption, stating, “My son drinks, and when he drinks, he does stupid stuff.” She emphasized that the vendor didn’t deserve to be stolen from and appreciated his service to the community.
The mother handed over $30, explaining she had enrolled her son in a treatment program and wished Sarac well. Sarac, deeply touched by her honesty and responsibility, accepted the money and expressed his gratitude, even asking for a hug. The identity of the son remains unknown, and there have been no further incidents reported.
