Bay Area Man Faces Multiple Murder Charges

Howard Wang, 43, is accused of three separate murders spanning California, including the brutal killings of his wife and mother-in-law. The charges stem from incidents in both the Bay Area and Southern California between June 2024 and September 2025.

Walnut Creek Double Homicide

In September 2025, Linlin Guo, 37, and her mother, Beimin Cheng, were found dead in their Walnut Creek home with their throats slashed. Howard Wang was initially charged with their murders. Authorities described the attack as targeted.

Mistress's Involvement & Evidence Tampering

Yan Wang, 45, Wang’s alleged lover, has been charged as an accomplice. Prosecutors allege she assisted in destroying evidence and intentionally misled investigators following the deaths of Guo and Cheng.

Southern California Connection

Contra Costa County prosecutors have now charged Wang with the murder of Chengli Li, 41, who was fatally shot in San Gabriel in June 2024. Investigators say Wang and another individual traveled from the Bay Area to commit the crime.

Motive Allegations

Prosecutors claim the shooting was motivated by Wang’s relationship with Yan Wang and intended to remove an obstacle to their relationship. The alleged motive suggests a deliberate plan to facilitate their affair.

History of Abuse & False Claims

The murders in Walnut Creek followed a reportedly troubled marriage characterized by alleged threats and controlling behavior. Prosecutors state Wang had previously made criminal threats against his wife and attempted to prevent her from reporting abuse.

Initial Investigation

Following the discovery of the bodies, Wang initially told police an intruder was responsible. Investigators believe this was a deliberate attempt to divert suspicion from himself.

Upcoming Court Dates & Impact on Children

Prosecutors intend to pursue all three murder cases together. Yan Wang was scheduled for arraignment on April 1, and Howard Wang on April 14. The case has also highlighted the tragic impact on the couple’s 8-year-old twin daughters, who survived the Walnut Creek attack but lost their mother.
