Former Louisiana Mayor Misty Roberts was sentenced to up to 17 years in prison for indecent behavior and carnal knowledge of a minor after a pool party incident. According to the report , Roberts, 44, was convicted in March of felony indecent behavior and carnal knowledge of a minor.

The 44-Year-Old Mayor's Downfall

Roberts, once a respected civic leader, was elected as DeRidder's first female mayor in 2018 and won a second term in 2022. She was still in office when she hosted the July 2024 pool party that led to her downfall.

During the week-long trial, testimony revealed that Roberts drank heavily , changed into a skimpy orange bikini, and initiated sexual contact with her son's best friend.

Witnesses Describe the Incident

According to court records, Roberts messaged her son asking what he wanted to drink and stocked the fridge with alcohol for his friends.. As the party progressed, she pressed her butt against the victim, stroked his torso, and posed for a flirty photograph.

She then began kissing the intoxicated teen, who was so drunk he was later seen vomiting.. She whispered, 'We cannot do this here ,' before leadig him to a spare room where she exposed her breasts and pulled down his pants.

The Consequences of Predatory Behavior

Roberts' daughter told investigators she saw her mother and the teen on top of each other. Her son admitted peering through a crack in a window, though he later said he could not be certain.

Another youth captured a photo on his cell phone, which prosecutor Charles Robinson described as a lewd and lascivious picture worth a thousand words.

Roberts' Defense and Sentence

Roberts' defense attorney, Adam Johnson, attributed her behavior to the stress of her 2022 divorce and alcohol abuse, stating, 'Trying to be the cool parent in a divorce is stupid.'

The jury took less than an hour to convict her. Roberts now faces up to 17 years in prison, with sentencing expected later today.
