Leche de Tigre Co-Founder Passes Away
Axel Olivo, a partner and co-founder of San Antonio’s Michelin-recognized Leche de Tigre Cebicheria Peruana, died on Sunday at the age of 31, according to a statement from the restaurant.
Restaurant Founded in 2023
Olivo launched Leche de Tigre in the Southtown area in 2023 alongside his brothers, Emil Oliva and Alec Oliva. The three siblings were born in Laredo, Texas, to a Peruvian father and a Mexican mother.
Family Roots in Peruvian Cuisine
The Oliva brothers spent eight years growing up in Peru, where they developed a deep appreciation for the country’s flavors. This culinary experience heavily influenced the ceviches and other Peruvian dishes served at Leche de Tigre.
Restaurant Closure and Memorial Service
“It’s with heavy hearts we share that our brother Axel Oliva tragically passed away earlier this week,” the restaurant announced on its social media channels. Leche de Tigre will be closed from Tuesday through Thursday as the family and team mourn their loss.
Memorial Details
A memorial service for Axel Olivo is scheduled for Thursday, April 2, at Porter Loring Mortuary, located at 1101 McCullough Ave. The service will be open to the public beginning at 5 p.m.
