Investigation into PetSuites Grooming Incident
The League City Police Department has officially charged a local groomer with felony animal cruelty. This follows a detailed investigation into the death of a 5-year-old goldendoodle that occurred while the dog was in the care of PetSuites in League City.
Animal Protection Officers were first alerted to the incident on January 30, after the dog's owner dropped the animal off for scheduled grooming services. Following an initial inquiry, the case was transferred to detectives for a more thorough review.
Evidence and Police Findings
The League City Police Department conducted a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the dog's death. Their process included:
- Conducting multiple witness interviews.
- Issuing and reviewing several subpoenas.
- Analyzing surveillance footage from the facility.
Based on this evidence, investigators concluded that the dog’s death was the direct result of negligence by the groomer, identified as 56-year-old Lisa Pfund.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Following the investigation, detectives secured a felony warrant for Pfund's arrest on February 24. She was eventually taken into custody on March 30 at a hotel in Webster, located approximately five miles from the site of the incident.
The arrest was executed without incident by the Galveston County Precinct 4 Constable's Office. Pfund is currently facing a third-degree felony charge for cruelty to a non-livestock animal, with her bond set at $50,000.
