Powerball Winner Faces New Criminal Charges
James Farthing, the Kentucky resident who secured a massive $167 million Powerball jackpot nearly a year ago, has reportedly been arrested for the third time. According to records from the Fayette County Detention Center, this latest detention stems from allegations of burglary.
The 51-year-old man was taken into custody on Saturday. His current charges include second-degree burglary and possession of marijuana, as detailed in an arrest citation filed by the Lexington Police Department.
Details of the Alleged Burglary
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Saturday when Farthing was allegedly captured on security camera footage entering a residence located on Kenesaw Drive in Lexington.
The homeowner reported hearing a significant noise, suggesting the door had been forcibly opened. Following the alleged entry, Farthing reportedly fled the location in a black Porsche vehicle before law enforcement arrived at the scene.
Theft and Subsequent Arrest
The arrest citation indicates that the victim alleged $12,000 in cash was taken from the residence by Farthing. Police successfully located Farthing later that evening, around 9 p.m., in the parking lot of Red Mile Gaming.
During the subsequent arrest, officers reportedly observed an alleged marijuana blunt in plain view inside Farthing's vehicle. A search of the car allegedly uncovered additional marijuana, leading to the possession charge.
History of Legal Troubles
Farthing was transported to the Fayette County Detention Center without incident, according to the citation. This arrest adds to a recent history of legal issues for the lottery winner.
Earlier this month, Farthing pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of battery and resisting an officer, offenses for which he was arrested in Florida back in April 2025. Furthermore, he currently has active cases pending in Fayette County for a hit-and-run charge and an intimidation charge in Scott County.
