Jason Momoa Joins DCU as The Main Man

Actor Jason Momoa, known for his previous role as Aquaman, has officially been cast as the DC character Lobo in the new DC Universe (DCU). Momoa had long expressed interest in playing this specific character.

This casting was confirmed in 2024 for a movie scheduled to hit theaters on June 26, 2026. Lobo is known by several monikers, including The Main Man, the Last Czarnian, and the Scourge of the Cosmos.

The DCU Film's Core Storyline

The upcoming film will feature Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-el (Supergirl), the cousin of David Corenswet’s Superman. Eve Ridley is cast as Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young alien girl.

Ruthye is on a mission across the galaxy to find Krem of the Yellow Hills, the individual responsible for murdering her father. The synopsis reveals that Kara has a personal stake in capturing Krem.

Krem poisoned Kara’s dog, Krypto, who will perish within three days without the antidote Krem possesses. Krypto represents Kara’s last connection to her home planet, Krypton.

Lobo's Potential Role in the Narrative

While Lobo was not initially part of the comic book storyline that inspired the film, his presence as an intergalactic bounty hunter suggests he could aid Ruthye in her pursuit of Krem.

Director Craig Gillespie described the movie as having a dynamic similar to John Wick. In this context, Lobo might fill a role akin to La Boeuf, a character who initially pursues the same villains separately before teaming up with the protagonist.

This suggests Lobo may start on his own mission to take down the same targets, leading to an eventual partnership with Supergirl.

Who is Lobo? Origins and Abilities

Lobo, whose name translates to “one who devours your entrails and thoroughly enjoys it,” originated on the peaceful planet Czarnia. He was immediately labeled “the devil incarnate” due to his nature.

Lobo became the Last Czarnian after he single-handedly killed the entire population of five billion inhabitants on his home world. Despite being a cold-blooded killer, he has a notable fondness for space dolphins.

Mercenary Code and Powers

Lobo previously worked for Vril Dox, the commander of L.E.G.I.O.N., under a pact to protect his dolphin pack. Lobo adheres strictly to his mercenary code: “No Contract, No Kill.”

He demands high payment for his services as an assassin to royalty and executioner to the stars. If he is not paid for a kill, he often pursues the person who stiffed him as “community service.”

Lobo funds his lifestyle of fighting, drinking, and women through mercenary work. His extensive arsenal includes a backup gun, knives, grenades, explosives, and his signature hook and chain.

He travels on his customized SpazFrag 666 space cycle, known as his Spacehog. Lobo possesses enhanced speed and strength, making him capable of fighting Superman to a standstill.

Furthermore, he can instantly analyze opponents to find their weaknesses and track anyone across the galaxy after meeting them once. Originally, Lobo could self-heal and generate clones from a single drop of blood, but Vril Dox removed his regenerative cloning ability to protect the galaxy from an army of him.
