Jaguars Announce 2027 Orlando Residency
The City of Orlando officially welcomed the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday, marking a significant step towards hosting the team’s 2027 home games. Orlando officials stated they have been anticipating this opportunity for decades. The NFL voted to allow the Jaguars to temporarily relocate during the renovation of their Jacksonville stadium.
A ‘Historic Opportunity’ for Orlando
Orlando is eager to showcase itself as more than just a tourist destination. For the 2027 season, Camping World Stadium will serve as the Jaguars’ home field. Mayor Buddy Dyer emphasized the city’s experience hosting major events, citing the annual Pro Bowl as preparation for welcoming Jaguars fans. “I can promise you we will be welcoming hosts to the Jags fans and we are looking forward to ’27,” Dyer said.
Economic Impact and Fan Support
The move is expected to provide a substantial economic benefit to Orlando. Mayor Donna Deegan projected that the city could see over $25 million per game from hosting the Jaguars. Jacksonville is supportive of sharing this economic opportunity.
Proximity and Fan Travel
Camping World Stadium is located just over two hours from Jacksonville, making it feasible for Jaguars fans to attend games. Team President Mark Lamping noted that fan feedback favored a one-year relocation over a longer absence from Jacksonville. The team and the City of Jacksonville agreed to a maximum of three home games in London during the 2027 season, but the final number is still to be determined.
Khan Family Ties to Orlando
Jaguars owner Shad Khan expressed his enthusiasm for the arrangement, highlighting his family’s long-standing connection to Orlando. He and his wife, Anna, have spent three weeks annually in Orlando with their children for years, creating cherished memories. “Obviously, we were sold on Orlando from day 1,” Khan stated. “I just couldn’t be happier for us to be here under the circumstances to be playing our next season here.”
A Temporary Relocation
Deegan reassured Jacksonville fans that the relocation is temporary. “Don’t get any crazy ideas here, Orlando,” she joked. “They’re coming on home…Back to Jacksonville. We’ve got ‘em for 30 years at least.”
Enthusiasm and Local Support
Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings and other local leaders expressed their excitement. While some playful banter occurred regarding the Jaguars’ rallying cry, “Duuuval,” the overall sentiment was one of enthusiastic support. The NFL’s unanimous vote to approve the move underscores the thoroughness of the planning process.
