Jackson County Deputy Killed in Line of Duty
A Jackson County deputy and another person were fatally shot late Wednesday night in St. Martin, Mississippi. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the line-of-duty death of Deputy Michael Jimerson following an exchange of gunfire.
Details of the Incident
Sheriff John Ledbetter stated that deputies were dispatched to the Reserve Apartments around 11 p.m. in response to a reported disturbance. Upon arrival, an exchange of gunfire took place involving a female individual.
Suspect Pronounced Dead at the Scene
The female subject involved in the shooting was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel. Details regarding her identity have not yet been released.
Deputy Jimerson's Passing
Deputy Jimerson was transported to Ocean Springs Hospital with his injuries. Sadly, he succumbed to those injuries at the hospital. The Sheriff’s Office announced his death this morning.
Deputy Jimerson's Service and Legacy
Michael Jimerson began his career with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office as a reserve deputy in 2010. He was officially hired as a full-time deputy in 2014.

Sheriff Ledbetter described Jimerson as a dedicated and compassionate officer. “He was assigned to the Patrol Division, where he earned the respect of his colleagues and the community through his professionalism, dedication, and compassion,” Ledbetter said in a statement.

“Deputy Jimerson was a valued member of our law enforcement family and a trusted friend to many,” Ledbetter continued. “His loss is deeply felt across the department and the community he served.
