Iran Issues Threat to US Tech Companies
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is threatening potential attacks on major U.S. technology companies with operations in the Middle East. The warning suggests strikes could begin imminently.
List of Targeted Companies
In a message posted on Telegram, the IRGC identified 18 companies as potential “legitimate targets” for retaliation. These include Microsoft, Boeing, Apple, Google, Cisco, HP, Intel, Oracle, Meta, IBM, Dell, Planter, Nvidia, JPMorgan, Tesla, GE, Spire Solutions, and G42. Amazon and AWS were notably absent from the list.
Imminent Attack Warning
The IRGC warned that attacks could commence as early as 9:30 a.m. PST, urging employees of the listed companies to evacuate their workplaces to ensure their safety. The group stated, “From now on, for every assassination, an American company will be destroyed.”
Concerns in Seattle Area
The threat has raised concerns in the Seattle area, home to headquarters and significant workforces for several of the targeted companies. Many employees have connections to the Middle East and frequently travel there for business purposes.
Recent Regional Tensions
This warning follows recent Iranian drone strikes targeting cloud infrastructure linked to Amazon Web Services in the United Arab Emirates, resulting in disruptions to various apps and digital services. U.S. tech firms have made substantial investments in the Middle East, particularly in artificial intelligence infrastructure, attracted by lower energy costs and land availability.
Company Responses
Intel has stated it is taking steps to protect its workers and facilities in the region and is actively monitoring the situation. Microsoft and Boeing have not yet issued public comments regarding the threat.
The developments occur amidst a broader regional conflict that has escalated since late February, involving the launch of thousands of drones and missiles across the Middle East.
