Indiana Man Receives Lengthy Prison Sentence
A man from LaPorte, Indiana, has been sentenced to over eight years in federal prison following convictions related to methamphetamine distribution and illegal firearm possession. Edwardo Trevino, 43, received the sentence on March 19th after a jury found him guilty on all counts.
Details of the Charges
Trevino was convicted of distributing methamphetamine, possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and unlawfully possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. He was sentenced to 100 months (8 years and 4 months) in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
Evidence Presented at Trial
Prosecutors presented evidence showing Trevino sold methamphetamine to an individual. In a separate incident, officers discovered a backpack containing methamphetamine, drug packaging materials, Trevino’s identification, and a loaded pistol while he was a passenger in a vehicle.
Prior Felony Conviction
Prosecutors noted that Trevino has a prior felony conviction for residential entry. This previous conviction legally prohibited him from possessing a firearm.
Statements from Law Enforcement
U.S. Attorney Adam Mildred emphasized the collaborative nature of the investigation. “Due to their efforts, a repeat felon who was intending to poison our community with methamphetamine while armed with a handgun will serve 8 years followed by three years of community supervision,” Mildred stated.
DEA Assistant Special Agent in Charge Chip Cooke affirmed the commitment to combating drug trafficking. “There is no room in northern Indiana for the cruelty and evilness of drug traffickers. Mr. Trevino will be out of society for a long time, and we will be a safer and healthier northern Indiana because of it,” Cooke said.
Multi-Agency Cooperation
The case involved cooperation between the Drug Enforcement Administration, LaPorte County officials, and local police departments, demonstrating a unified approach to tackling drug-related crime in the region.
