The Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball program experienced further roster changes on March 30 when two players entered the transfer portal. While Addie Deal's departure caused significant surprise, she was soon joined by another teammate.

Callie Levin Enters the Portal
Callie Levin, who hails from Solon, Iowa, confirmed her decision to seek opportunities elsewhere just hours after Deal's announcement. The current landscape of college sports often brings unpredictability regarding player retention.
Levin shared her emotional connection to the program while explaining her choice to move on. She stated, "Ever since I was a little girl I always dreamt of playing basketball for the Iowa Hawkeyes."
She continued, reflecting on her time in Iowa City. "The ringing of my name in Carver Hawkeye Arena after hitting my first shot was everything I expected and more. It's been one of my greatest honors to wear the black and gold and represent my home state."
Pivoting to New Goals
Despite achieving a childhood ambition, Levin acknowledged the necessity of change. "Although my dream was to spend my career playing basketball in the black and gold, sometimes in life we have to pivot and change course to reach our goals," she explained.
Concluding her statement, Levin confirmed her next step. "Therefore, I will be entering the transfer portal. Thank you Hawkeye Nation for the past two years. I will always be a Hawkeye at heart."
Roster Implications for Next Season
Both Levin and her teammate did not see extensive playing time during the recent season. However, their combined departure will result in a noticeably different look for the Iowa bench next year.
Coach Jan Jensen reportedly had a strategy in place concerning players like Levin. Ultimately, Levin opted not to remain part of that planned trajectory for the team.
Situations like these often lack a single party to blame, as all involved benefit from avoiding protracted offseason negotiations. While losing Deal is noted as the most significant impact, uncertainty remains about whether other players might also enter the portal.
Although there is always a possibility for players to return, Jensen is already preparing replacement strategies ahead of the portal's official opening in one week. Fans are encouraged to follow Iowa Hawkeyes on SI for ongoing news, exclusive interviews, and recruiting updates.
