Horimiya Set to Stream on Netflix
Netflix is expanding its anime library with the addition of the beloved Shonen series Horimiya. The streaming platform has confirmed the series will begin streaming in May 2026, marking a significant arrival for fans who have waited five years for wider accessibility.
Netflix's Growing Anime Selection
While Crunchyroll remains a primary hub for new anime releases, Netflix continues to offer a unique and appealing experience for anime enthusiasts. The platform consistently adds both new and classic titles, providing a diverse range of content each month.
A Two-Part Adaptation
Horimiya’s anime adaptation initially premiered in 2021. The series was released in two parts, with the second part debuting in 2023. This second part aimed to adapt scenes that were omitted from the original anime run.
From Manga to Anime: A Decade in the Making
The anime adaptation arrived ten years after the original manga’s debut. The initial adaptation, covering over 130 manga chapters in just 13 episodes, faced criticism for its pacing. CloverWorks addressed these concerns with the release of the second part, titled, aiming to provide a more complete adaptation.
The Story of Horimiya
Horimiya blends school comedy with romance, exploring themes of personal struggles and insecurities. The story centers around Kyoko Hori, a popular and high-achieving student who leads a double life. She hides her home responsibilities – caring for her younger brother while her parents are at work – from her classmates.
Her secret is revealed when Izumi Miyamura, a quiet classmate, helps her after her brother is injured. Kyoko is surprised to discover Miyamura’s drastically different appearance outside of school. As they navigate their hidden lives, Kyoko and Izumi grow closer, offering each other support and understanding.
Where to Watch
While Netflix has recently confirmed its acquisition of the series, Horimiya has been previously available on streaming platforms such as Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Prime Video.
